College Sport Scandals Aside, Here's A Good Story

College sports has been plagued by scandals over the past few years -- from the sex-abuse scandal and cover-up at Penn State to cheating in the classroom. Many "student athletes" fail to graduate and others tarnish the reputation of the college they represent.
Yet there are places where the college sports experience is a positive one both for the college and the athlete. Probably few people outside the state of Ohio know of the University of Toledo's women's basketball program. It has something that no other team in the country has. Naama Shafir is the only Orthodox Jewish women to have received an athletic scholarship at an NCAA institution. She is now a fifth year senior after receiving a waiver to play an additional year because of an injury early last season. She is also a member of the Israeli national team. She is a star player as a point guard having already set a Toledo career record for assists. She led Toledo to the Women's NIT championship in 2011, scoring 40 points and being named tournament MVP. She also happens to be an honor student.
